2. Laser Surgery: Companions Animal Hospital is proud and excited to be one of the first veterinary hospitals in Boise to provide Laser Surgery to our dog, cat and exotic patients. This incredible surgical tool is revolutionizeing the way surgery is performed on our companion animals.
There are several advantages to CO2 laser surgery:
a. Pain Reduction: Your pet will experience significantly less post-operative pain. The laser seals nerve endings as it cuts. This decreases your pets perception of pain and the need for post op analgesics.
b. Swelling Reduction: The laser seals lymphatics and decreases tissue trauma as it cuts.
c. Bleeding Reduction: The laser seals small blood vessels as it cuts, resulting in a reduction of bleeding.
d. Decreased Infection Risk: Laser surgery sterilizes the surgery site as it cuts, thus killing bacteria that may cause infection.
e. Decreased Recovery Time: Less swelling, bleeding and post-operative discomfort results in a shorter recovery period for your pet.
3. Surgery: At Companions Animal Hosptial we use Sevoflurane and Isoflurane anesthetics, the safest in the veterinary field. Pets that are anesthetized are put on a heart monitor and a staff member is always with them to check their vital signs during any procedure. Spays, neuters, lump removals, abdominal surgery and other surgeries are just some of the procedures we perform. We recommend pre-surgery blood work and we provide pain control both during the procedure and for a few days after surgery on all our elective surgeries
4. Laboratory: We have the newest, state-of-the-art, blood analyzer on the market. We use it inconjunction with our blood chemistry machine to run many blood tests right here in our clinic. We are able to get almost immediate results when your pet is ill or before a surgical procedure. We also use an off site lab for more involved tests.
5. Medicine: We utilize both an in house blood chemistry analyzer as well as an outside lab. We frequently consult with specialists and occasionally refer cases to other veterinarians for specialized tests or treatments.
6. Dentistry: Companions Animal Hospital recently purchased a state of the art dental machine and a dental x-ray unit. This equipment allows us to perform not only basic dental cleaning and polishing, but oral surgery, dental radiographs of fractured or abscessed teeth and tooth extractions.
7. Dermatology: Skin diseases are one of the most frustrating problems in veterinary medicine. We utilize skin scrapings, analysis of skin cells, and skin biopsies as aids to diagnose skin problems. Food allergies, inhalant allergies, parasites, and infections are just some of the things that can cause diseases of the skin in our pets.
8. Ear Problems: We use a videoscope to help us diagnose, monitor & treat ear infections. This allows our clients to see the ear canal and follow the progression of therapy.
9. Chemotherapy: Our pets can get cancer. The advent of new drugs and early diagnosis makes chemotherapy a good option for some of the cancers in our pets.
10. Geriatric Medicine: Our aging pets get the same types of illnesses that we do. Monitoring blood pressures, heart murmurs, and kidney function are just some of the things we can do to monitor your pets health.
11. Behavior: All of the doctors at Companions Animal Hospital can help with basic behavior problems. Behavior modification and occasionally drug therapies can be used. Specialists are available by phone for that real "problem case".
12. Vaccines and preventative care: We offer annual and triennial vaccines according to the latest recommendations of the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. We also offer flea control, internal parasite medication, heartworm tests and heartworm preventatives.
